Listen to me…you who have been carried from birth…supported from the time you left the womb. Even when you are old, I will take care of you…I will carry you and rescue you.
Into the Text
Some days the weight we carry feels invisible to everyone, but the load is unbearable to us.
The responsibilities, the heartaches, the unknowns—they pile up quietly until we feel stretched thin, barely able to hold it all together. And even though we know we should trust God with them, the pressure to manage it all—to be strong, to keep going, to not let anyone down—can feel overwhelming at times.
But Isaiah 46 reminds us that we are not the ones doing the carrying.
God says, “You’ve been carried from birth…and I will [still] carry you” (vv. 3–4). Unlike the lifeless idols of the world that must be lifted by their worshipers, our God is alive and He lifts us. From the very beginning of our lives and all the way through to our last breath, He is the One carrying us. Sustaining us. Rescuing us.
This is the heart of our God: tender, wise, and strong. We forget that sometimes. We live like the weight is ours to manage. But God never asked us to carry what only He can hold. His wisdom invites us to lay down what’s too heavy and trust that He is strong enough, faithful enough, and loving enough to take it.
Letting go doesn’t mean we stop caring. It means we surrender control. We acknowledge that His strength is made perfect in our weakness—and we rest in the truth that His shoulders are big enough for whatever we’re facing.
In His perfect wisdom, God knows exactly what to carry and how to carry us. He’s not just strong enough; He’s enough to know what our hearts need most. Even when we can’t put our prayers into words, He understands. He lifts us with care and love and sees far beyond our own limited perspective. His wisdom doesn’t just lead us, it holds us.
So if you’re carrying something heavy today—something no one else may even see—pause and release it into His hands. You don’t have to do this on your own. You were never meant to.
