Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life.
Into the Text
As women, we often feel the pressure to say yes to everything.
Yes to helping, yes to serving, yes to one more thing—because we don’t want to disappoint anyone or hurt anyone’s feelings. But sometimes, in our desire to say yes to others, we forget to say yes to the right things—what God has truly called us to do in this season.
Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard our hearts—not out of self-protection, but out of wisdom. Because our hearts are the wellspring of life. And when we give away all our time, energy, and patience without discernment, we end up spiritually dry and emotionally depleted.
Saying no isn’t selfish. It’s stewardship.
It’s embracing the truth that we have limits. And that’s not a flaw; it’s by design. Only God is limitless. When we seek His wisdom, He gently shows us how to prioritize what matters most. His Spirit helps us walk not out of guilt or the need to please everyone but out of a quiet obedience to His will for our lives. In His wisdom, we gain clarity—learning to release what drains us and embrace what He has called us to do in this season.
Sometimes wisdom looks like setting boundaries. Sometimes, it looks like choosing to rest. Sometimes, it means letting someone else do it for a change. Wisdom is staying faithful to what God has asked you to do.
And that’s not failure—it’s obedience.
Jesus Himself didn’t say yes to every need around Him. He stayed in tune with God’s will for His life. If the Son of God walked in wisdom with His yeses and noes, then we are called to do the same.
So sweet friend, if you’re feeling stretched thin today, pause and ask God: What have You asked me to carry in this season? And what have I picked up that You never intended for me to hold? His wisdom will guide you. And in that guidance, you’ll find both freedom and rest.
