Jesus’ Miracles and Healing

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live even if he dies, and the one who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

John 11:25-26

Into the Text

The third component of Jesus’ ministry was miracles and healings. Though God had empowered prophets to perform miracles in the Old Testament, none were able to heal with a word or a touch. Jesus demonstrated power and authority in ways unlike anything that had ever been seen.

Jesus’ miracles and healings were centered around seeking out those who were sick, hurting, outcasts, or in need. He cleansed lepers, brought sight to the blind, fed thousands from a small meal for one, and raised individuals to life. Through these miracles, we see that Jesus truly is the Son of God.

Notice that in most of the miracles, Jesus addressed the individual’s physical need but first and foremost addressed their spiritual need. It was through their faith in Him that Jesus responded. Many times, Jesus would say that their faith was what made them well.

You may be walking through a season where you feel forgotten or that God is not able to do the impossible. Whether it’s an illness, healing broken relationships, or providing means, God is more than able to help. Nothing is impossible for Him.

There are many good and right things where we need God’s intervention, but our first priority is making sure that our faith is centered in Him. Sometimes it just takes a step of faith to reach out and ask and then watch Him work.

Prayer

Jesus, thank you that you are a Savior who heals and performs miracles. I pray that I would turn to you first in faith when life feels out of control. Amen.
