“For I passed on to you as of first importance what I also received—that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures”
“We know that since Christ has been raised from the dead, he is never going to die again; death no longer has mastery over him.”
Into the Text
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most significant event in human history. Without it, we would merely have a dead Messiah. Instead, we serve a Savior who is alive and reigning (1 Corinthians 15).
The forces of sin and death were unable to hold Jesus in the tomb. His resurrection is the ultimate proof of His divinity and the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. Over 500 witnesses, including His disciples, saw Jesus alive after His resurrection. They felt the wounds in His hands and recognized Him, confirming that He had indeed risen from the dead.
The world changed because of Jesus’ resurrection! We see that the church began to flourish afterwards because of the message of the risen Jesus. Traditions also changed throughout the world. Though it is not as widely taught anymore today, the way in which our calendars are structured hinge on the life and resurrection of Jesus.
If Jesus had remained in the grave after His crucifixion, there would be no hope for believers. Our faith would be empty, and we would still be trapped in our sins (1 Corinthians 15:14). But because Jesus rose from the dead, we have hope for the forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life. His resurrection ensures that Jesus’ work was enough, and death does not have the final word.
This victory over death means those who trust in Jesus share in His triumph. We can confidently declare that sin no longer has a hold on us.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank you for your victory over sin and death. Help me to live in the hope and assurance of your resurrection. Strengthen my faith and fill me with joy, knowing that I share in your triumph and have the promise of eternal life. In your name, Amen.
