Jesus Christ: Crucifixion

“He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; he endured punishment that made us well; because of his wounds we have been healed.”

Isaiah 53:5

“Because Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, to bring you to God, by being put to death in the flesh but by being made alive in the spirit.”

1 Peter 3:18

Into the Text

The crucifixion of Jesus Christ stands at the heart of the Christian faith. It is through His death on the cross that we find the ultimate expression of God’s love and the means of our salvation. From the beginning, God had a plan to redeem His people through a Rescuer (Genesis 3:15). Jesus’ death wasn’t by mistake or plan B. Rather, Jesus willingly went to the cross to face a gruesome death in order that you and I and all humanity could be redeemed and made right with our Heavenly Father.

All sin deserves just punishment and payment. Jesus’ position as the Son of God as well as His sinless and obedient life made His sacrifice sufficient once and for all.

The crucifixion was not just a tragic event; it was the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. Jesus willingly laid down His life, bearing the weight of our sins. This selfless act of love satisfied the justice of God, who cannot overlook sin. By carrying our sins, He willingly took on the punishment that you and I both deserve. Jesus made it possible for us to receive forgiveness and be restored to a right relationship with God.

Through faith in His death and resurrection, we are given new hearts, peace, and healing (Isaiah 53:5).

The crucifixion also reveals the incredible depth of God’s love for us that He was willing to sacrifice His own Son to save us. This act of grace is the foundation of our faith and the assurance of our salvation.

Prayer
