I no longer call you slaves, because the slave does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything I heard from my Father.
Into the Text
Jesus is the best friend you always wished you had. He is loyal, loving, and always there for you when you need Him. Christ wants to share with us all that He has heard from the Father, and He does this through the Holy Spirit. “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth…” (John 16:13). As you read the Word, meditate on it and pray over it, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you so that you can get to know Jesus better.
Abiding in Christ is an invitation to know Him deeply and join Him in His purpose for our lives as friends. Imagine that—Jesus, the Son of God, calls us His friends! He isn’t distant or disconnected from our lives. Instead, He draws us close, sharing His heart and His mission with us and including us in the incredible work He is doing around us.
Friendship with Jesus changes everything. As His friends, we have the privilege of coming to Him, talking with Him, and listening to His voice. He doesn’t keep us in the dark about what He’s doing. He shares with us the very heart of God.
Being chosen and commissioned by Christ means that our lives have a purpose beyond ourselves. We’re called to make an impact, to bear fruit that blesses others and glorifies God. This fruit isn’t always something we see immediately. As we remain faithful, God brings growth in His timing.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank you for calling me your friend and choosing me to bear fruit. Help me to abide in you daily, to listen to your voice, and to live a life that reflects your love. Amen.
