For all things in heaven and on earth were created in him—all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers—all things were created through him and for him.
Into the Text
Paul now launches into one of the greatest exaltations of Jesus Christ in all the Bible. The invisible, eternal, and unknowable God has revealed Himself to us by coming in the form of a man. But lest anyone think that Jesus was created like the angels, Paul proclaims that Jesus Himself is God, the Creator.
Jesus has created everything we can see, from the sun and stars to flowers and grasshoppers. Everything. Amazingly, He is also the Creator of the invisible world. He has made all the angels, no matter how good or evil or powerful.
Most importantly, Jesus has created you. We were made for Jesus, not the world, your reputation, your relationship status, or your material possessions. You were made to know and worship the Creator.
You may be in a season of life where you feel out of control or at the mercy of the power of others. Know that you are on the side of the almighty Creator. Nothing is out of His sovereign control. Though we may not always see how He is at work, we can trust that He is.
Today, we can marvel at the truth that we serve the Savior of the world. He came as a lowly servant so that we can be forgiven and free. We are redeemed by the blood of Jesus.
Everything was created in, through, and for Jesus. He is the only being worthy of our worship. Is your mind captured with the greatness and beauty of Jesus? Do you worship Him?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, you made everything. You are in charge of all powers. Nothing happens without your permission. Help me to worship you in the way you alone deserve. Amen.
