But since we are of the day, we must stay sober by putting on the breastplate of faith and love and as a helmet our hope for salvation. For God did not destine us for wrath but for gaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Into the Text
These verses remind us of the importance of being vigilant and sober-minded as we navigate this world. We are called to put on faith and love as a breastplate to protect us from our enemy’s attacks and the hope of salvation as a helmet to protect our minds from the lies and temptations of the world.
After being on social media or watching TV, we can easily get caught up in the worries and fears of this world. But we must strive to keep our focus on the hope of our salvation through Jesus, and the awesome meaning of this salvation both for now and eternity. When we do, we can experience God’s peace and find the strength to face each day with joy and confidence, knowing that, while we must endure hardship and suffering now, we have a glorious future to look forward to.
So, we choose to live as daughters of the day, knowing that our futures are secure in Christ. We see the signs of the times, but we do not worry. God has equipped us with the right armor for whatever He has assigned us each day.
As we intentionally put on our breastplate of faith, we move forward in our lives, loving those God has given us for such a time as this. We do not look to the future with fear, for we know that God is already there. We wear our helmet of salvation, guarding our minds with God’s Word, and staying alert to attacks from our enemy.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, help me stay sober and aware of You each day I live. Keep my heart tender to You, and help me be alert to Satan’s subtle attacks in my life. Help me love those You have placed in my life, and help me to look to the future with excitement as I long for Your return. Amen.
