When Pharaoh heard about this event, he sought to kill Moses. So Moses fled from Pharaoh and settled in the land of Midian, and he settled by a certain well.

Exodus 2:15

Into the Text

Imagine growing up in the palace of the king. You enjoy all the privileges, benefits, and wealth of royalty. The difference is that you were adopted, and your people are slaves to your grandfather.

This was Moses’ reality growing up. God had placed him in the palace of Pharaoh, but God also had bigger plans for Moses’ life.

Though Moses had lived as part of elite Egyptian society, his status changed in an instant. Moses sought justice for an Israelite man being mistreated, and he ended up killing an Egyptian. In what could be perceived as one of the lowest moments of Moses’ life, he found refuge in Midian with a priest and his family.

Moses went from being served to serving sheep in the desert. But through it all, God was at work, preparing the way to deliver the Israelites from slavery and bondage.

You may be in a season where you’ve been living the good life, a steady life, or a life dictated by your terms but now find yourself in the completely opposite place. In these moments, it can be easy to question whether God knows, cares, or will even forgive you if your own actions brought you to this new place.

Know that God is absolutely with you in these moments. It may be that he has you in this season to prepare you for what’s ahead. It may be that He has allowed you to be brought low in order for you to turn back to Him.

Hard seasons, especially ones that we didn’t choose or want, are not out of God’s sovereign plan. He can and will meet you in that place. He can be trusted.

Prayer

God, thank you that you are always in control. Help me to trust you when life takes a turn that I didn’t see coming or did not want. Amen.
