Your word is a lamp to walk by, and a light to illumine my path.
There have been times in my life when I desperately wanted a floodlight of God’s direction in my life. Instead, God has given me a lamp. And lamps don’t light up the whole path forward; they simply light up what is right in front of us.
Yet, I wonder, maybe in His love and wisdom, God gives us the dim light of the lamp on purpose? Maybe if He showed us the entire journey all at once, our fear might paralyse our faith. Maybe the floodlight would stop us on our path of faith before we’d even get started.
So maybe in His love and grace, God gives us just enough light for the next step of faith. And in that step—in the walking forward, not in the knowing what lies ahead—that’s where our faith grows,
And maybe that’s the point.
God isn’t interested in showing us the finish line—He’s inviting us to walk with Him, day by day, step by step. And that process often requires wisdom, trust, and a surrendered heart that is connected to His.
Psalm 119:105 reminds us that God’s Word is like a lamp to our feet. Not a spotlight revealing the entire journey, but a steady light that keeps us from stumbling as we take one step forward at a time. And when the path forward feels long or confusing, this light becomes our peace. A peace that surpasses all understanding as we grow to depend on God, not because we know the future, but because we know the One who holds it.
As we open His Word and seek His wisdom, we find a deep, steady peace that calms our hearts. It doesn’t always remove the questions, but it quiets our hearts reminding us that we are not walking alone; God walks with us step by step.
God’s peace oftentimes shows up in the process—when we choose to trust rather than strive, when we ask God for wisdom and then rest, knowing He is faithful and will lead us each step of the way.
So, sweet friend, wherever you are in the journey today—let the light of God’s Word light your path. Ask Him for wisdom, then walk in the peace of knowing He is with you each step of the way.
