Moses stretched out his hand toward the sea, and the Lord drove the sea apart by a strong east wind all that night, and he made the sea into dry land, and the water was divided. So the Israelites went through the middle of the sea on dry ground, the water forming a wall for them on their right and on their left.
Exodus 14:21-22
Into the Text
Pharaoh finally relented and let God’s people go. The Israelites quickly gathered all of their belongings and escaped. But Pharaoh’s change of heart didn’t last long. He soon realized what he had done, and he wanted his slaves back.
With Moses leading the charge, the people were safely on their way until they began to hear the sound of horses’ hooves clamoring behind them. In front of them was the Red Sea. Though they seemed out of options, God was in control. He commanded Moses to lift up his staff towards the Red Sea.
As he did, God parted the waters so that the people could cross on dry ground. When every Israelite made it safely to the other side, God shut the waters of the Red Sea on the Egyptians, and they all perished.
God’s power was far greater than anything Pharaoh could ever muster. God had a plan for His people. He was going to safely bring them to the Promised Land, the land He swore to give to Abraham and his descendants.
When we come to a crossroads in life, when it seems as if there’s no other option but defeat, lean on the power of God. Our job, like the Israelites’, is to be still, lay all our problems before the Almighty One, and wait for His deliverance. It will come, in His good time.
Prayer
God thank you that your power is far greater than anything in this world. I pray that I can turn to you and trust you when life seems too much to handle. May I see you at work and give you praise through your deliverance. Amen.
