Far Beyond What We Think

Now to him who by the power that is working within us is able to do far beyond all that we ask or think, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 3:20-21

Into the Text

Every night, I have a routine before I go to bed. One of the items on that list is to plug in my cell phone. I know that if I don’t, then my phone will die in the middle of the next day. It needs to be plugged into the power source in order to work.

In our relationship with Christ, we also have access to a power source each day. This power source is “able to do far beyond all that we ask or think,” as Paul writes.

That God is doing more than we can ask for or imagine does not mean that we get whatever we want when we want it. Rather, Paul is saying that the immeasurably strong power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work within us through the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11).

Too often, we limit what we believe God can do. We allow our human experiences to influence what we think God is like. It’s good to remind ourselves that He is the all-powerful Creator of the universe. He has the power to change hearts, fix broken situations, answer prayers that seem impossible, and so much more.

That same God is at work within us! You have access to that power right here and right now. That truth changes the way we pray. It changes the way we approach difficult situations. It changes how we view the world, and it changes how we view the church.

Praise God that we have access to a never-ending power and love that goes far beyond our expectations!

Prayer

God, thank you for your unlimited power. Help me to trust you to be at work in areas where I am tempted to doubt your power. May I see the ways you are at work around me. Amen.
