For though we live as human beings, we do not wage war according to human standards, for the weapons of our warfare are not human weapons, but are made powerful by God for tearing down strongholds. We tear down arguments and every arrogant obstacle that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to make it obey Christ.
Into the Text
2 Corinthians 10:3–5 is our battle plan. No matter who we are, we can all find ourselves struggling in our personal lives, our relationships, or our work from time to time. These day to day struggles can wear us out and make us feel overwhelmed and defeated.
That is why these verses are so powerful. They remind us that the battles we face are, above all, spiritual battles. God has given us exactly what we need to fight back. In His love and provision, God has given us divine, supernatural power to destroy strongholds, to defeat the arguments and opinions that stand against the knowledge of God, and the ability to take captive every thought that would lead us away from Christ.
God has pulled back the curtain for us to help us see what is really going on behind the scenes. We are not naive. We know we are fighting a spiritual battle that, at times, manifests itself in the physical world. But we are not afraid, because we know we are not fighting a losing battle. God has already claimed the victory!
All we need to do now is trust and obey God in the midst of our battles, knowing there is more than meets the eye. The weapons we use might not be physical, but they have divine power that can tear down the strongest of strongholds and any obstacles that come our way. So we fight back with the power God has given us, and we intentionally take our thoughts captive, making them obedient to Christ. We will no longer be women who are influenced by toxic thoughts. Our minds surrender to God’s Word, and God’s Word alone.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for already winning the battle. Help me to take all my thoughts captive and bring them before You. I cannot fight this battle on my own. Fight for me and help me as I strive to live according to Your Word. Guard my thoughts as I seek to keep my mind focused on who You are and on what is true. Amen.
