Because everyone who has been fathered by God conquers the world. This is the conquering power that has conquered the world: our faith. Now who is the person who has conquered the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
Into the Text
There is a powerful connection between faith and salvation. As children of God, we share in God’s victory over the world and all that is in the world. By putting our faith in Jesus Christ, we are given the strength to overcome any obstacle that comes our way. We are given the power to face each day with confidence, knowing that no matter what happens, we are not alone.
We can never underestimate the power of our faith because, through Christ, we are more than conquerors (See Romans 8:37). Our faith is a total leaning on what we know to be true, even if we don’t see it just yet. Our faith in God and His Word is the secret to victory in all our battles.
We must never forget that it was by faith that Noah, Abraham, Moses, Rahab, and many others overcame. By faith, each of them took God at His Word and walked forward in obedience, and, by faith, we can do the same. Like them, we do not put our confidence in ourselves or in other people, but we rest in only God, His faithfulness, promises, and—above all—His saving work through Jesus Christ.
May we not be discouraged by our trials and unseen battles. Instead, let’s take up our shields of faith, knowing we are more than conquerors because of who we are in Christ.
Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for conquering the world and giving us the power to do so as well. Thank You for allowing us to share in Your victory over this world. Help us to walk forward by faith like Abraham, Rahab, and many others. Amen.
