But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth.
Acts 1:8
Into the Text
The Savior of the world had come and is now seated at the right hand of the Father in heaven (Hebrews 1:3).
Jesus promised that very soon He would send the Holy Spirit to indwell, equip, convict, and guide believers into a life of faithfulness, but the disciples would need to wait a little longer.
In Jerusalem, the disciples gathered together on the day of Pentecost. Scripture tells us that a mighty wind broke through the room and something like tongues of fire fell over the men. The Holy Spirit came, and the mission of making Christ known throughout the world could begin.
If you have trusted in Jesus, you, too, have the Holy Spirit living within you. You are to be a witness in Jerusalem (your closest circle), Judea (your neighbors), Samaria (your enemies), and the ends of the earth (everyone else).
It may be that God is calling you to be on mission with the people around you or within your home. God may be calling you to take a great leap of faith to speak to someone who has never heard the gospel. Just like the Holy Spirit empowered the disciples to speak the different languages of all the listeners on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit can and will empower you.
You have a great mission and a great helper who will see you through.
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, please be with me and guide me as I live on mission for Jesus daily. May you give me strength and courage each day. Amen.
