When the child grew older she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, “Because I drew him from the water.”
Into the Text
Though God would raise up Moses to be the deliverer for the people of Israel, deliverance began through the brave acts of the Hebrew women.
The midwives were told to kill all Hebrew boys at the moment of birth. But these women trusted God and feared Him more than they feared Pharaoh. Their bravery could have easily resulted in their deaths, but God protected them. He allowed their scheme to be successful and their lives to prosper.
Moses’ mother is another example of a woman who trusted God despite difficult circumstances. When her child’s life was threatened, she did whatever it took to protect him. God would not allow her actions to go to waste.
God not only protected baby Moses so that he could grow into the deliverer of Israel, but He also was gracious to give Moses’ mother more time with her child.
As only God could, the basket in which she placed baby Moses among the reeds of the Nile ended up at the house of Pharaoh’s daughter. His mother was able to nurse and care for Moses until he was older in age. What seems like a coincidence is the deliberate hand of God.
And while we believe that God is totally in control of all the events in our lives, we are not called to simply sit on our hands and wait for Him to move. What if we began to look at different situations as opportunities for us to join God in His mission and to bravely step up and stand up for His glory and His people?
Today could be the day that God is calling you to take a brave step of faith. Will you trust Him?
Prayer
God, thank you that you are the Great Protector. I pray that I will bravely trust you as the midwives and Moses’ mother did to serve your people and your kingdom. Amen.
