“Look! I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to pay each one according to what he has done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end!”
Revelation 22:12-13
Into the Text
At the very end of Scripture, Jesus speaks. His words echo like a final heartbeat of hope: “Behold, I am coming soon.”
These are not empty words. They are a promise sealed by the One who is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the One who always was, is, and will come again.
Sometimes, “soon” feels like a long wait, especially when the world feels dark, heavy, and uncertain. But God’s definition of “soon” isn’t about our calendars. It’s about His perfect timing. He is not slow in keeping His promise, “but is being patient toward you because he does not want any to perish but for all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).
And so we wait. Not passively but expectantly. Not fearfully but faithfully.
We wait while doing the things He has called us to do. There is a reason He has not yet returned, there is a reason why He has placed us where we are, and there is still work to be done.
Sweet friend, Jesus’ return is not a maybe. It’s a certainty. And it’s also a certainty that He will “pay each one according to what he has done” (v 12). So let’s keep on doing good, as we remember His final words: “Yes, I am coming soon” (v. 20).
Come, Lord Jesus. Come.
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for the promise that you are coming again. Please show me the work you have prepared for me and help me to be faithful until you return. Amen.
