The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Exodus 15:2

Into the Text

After being rescued from the Egyptians and miraculously walking through the Red Sea, there was only one thing left to do: Celebrate!

Moses’ song reminded the people who God is and what He had done for them. God is Lord and King; He is triumphant, powerful, mighty, majestic, sovereign, strong, and loving.

This song stands as a reminder for us today that we are called to live a life of praise and gratitude for the good things God has done. Yet, such a lifestyle of praise begins with faith.

Hebrews 11 is known as the “Hall of Faith.” This section of Scripture defines faith and highlights those in the Old Testament characterized by their faith in God. We see in verses 23–29 that Moses was guided by faith.

As the Israelites worshiped God for the miracle at the Red Sea, we have the opportunity to worship God for the miracle of the cross of Jesus Christ.

God sent His one and only Son to come to earth to rescue and redeem humanity from their sin. Jesus lived a perfect life and took on the payment that our sins require. He went to the cross as God’s spotless lamb. He had done nothing wrong, yet He died for the sins of humanity. Three days later, He rose from the grave victorious over both sin and death.

Now, Jesus invites all who would believe in His atoning death for salvation to come to Him. In this act of faith, we are forgiven and redeemed. We are rescued as we cross over from death to life and become part of God’s family. That Jesus lives is the greatest truth and one worth celebrating all of our days.

Prayer

God, you are worthy of our praise and so much more. I pray that my life would be marked by gratitude and worship of you, for you have rescued and redeemed me. Amen.
