“Mordecai the Jew was second only to King Ahasuerus. He was the highest-ranking Jew, and he was admired by his numerous relatives. He worked enthusiastically for the good of his people and was an advocate for the welfare of all his descendants.”

Esther 10:3

Into the Text

Mordecai’s life is such a beautiful example of humble service. He didn’t seek fame or recognition, yet he was honored and elevated because of his dedication to the welfare of his people. In contrast, Haman’s pride and ambition led to his downfall. While Haman schemed for power and honor, Mordecai quietly worked for the good of others, and it was Mordecai who was ultimately celebrated.

What a powerful lesson for us! In a world that often values self-promotion and ambition, Mordecai shows us a different path—one of humility, service, and seeking the good of others. His heart was aligned with God’s purposes, and he was willing to speak up and act on behalf of his people. And because of that, God honored him in a way that Haman’s scheming could never achieve.

Sweet friend, where is God calling you to work on behalf of His people? Is there someone in your life who needs encouragement, someone who needs your voice to advocate for them? Like Mordecai, we are called to seek the welfare of others, not for personal gain, but out of love and obedience to God. When we serve with a humble heart, God sees our faithfulness, and He is the One who honors us in His perfect time.

Let’s be women who seek to build up, speak peace, and work for the good of those around us, trusting that God is working in and through our lives for our good and His glory.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, thank you for working for the good of your people. Thank you for the story of Esther and the way it reminds us that you are always with us, guiding us and protecting us. Help me to serve with a humble heart, like Mordecai, and to seek the welfare of others. May I live my life to advance your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Amen.
