Monday – We Have a Mighty God
READ: Joshua 4:19-24; 1 Kings 8:41-43
SOAP: Joshua 4:23-24
For further reading – Joshua 4:15-18
“For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”– Joshua 4:23-24
Yesterday we saw how important it was for the people of Israel to create a stone memorial so future generations could remember how God had helped them and performed great miracles. Today we see another reason for the memorial – to let the people of earth know how big and powerful God is.
I love how 1 Kings 8:41 tells us that foreigners came to Israel from far countries because of their reputation. Foreigners like Rahab and Ruth had heard about the mighty works of God and wanted to join His people.
Matthew 24:14 says, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” All prophets talked about the Messiah, His first coming and His second coming as King over Jerusalem. We know Jesus came more than two thousand years ago. Now we´re waiting for His second coming. But this won´t happen until the whole world has heard about Him and the salvation He offers.
The Great Commission is not only for those called to the mission field. It´s for every Christian. Missionaries in the field need fellow believers that pray for them and support them financially. That´s how we, the church, will reach every corner in the world and let all people know about Jesus.
Oh, Father, I want to be an active agent in your Great Commission. I don´t want to be on the sidelines and look at things from a distance. I want to do my part. Please show me what You want me to do. I pray that in every nation, in every little corner of the world, every soul has the opportunity to know about Jesus and the salvation we only have in Him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
