Monday – Be in God´s Word Every Day
READ: Joshua 1:5-9
SOAP: Joshua 1:8
For further reading – Joshua 1:10-18
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” – Joshua 1:8
I love how the book of Joshua gets right to the heart of the matter! God gives Joshua a clear instruction – “Cross the Jordan and take possession of the land I´ve already given you.” God knew the task wasn´t going to be easy, so He gives them a few commands. The first one is that Joshua is to be strong and courageous. This command is based on a promises God makes, that He will be with them, He will not forsake them.
The second command was to stay true to God’s law. Joshua was to be very careful that he did things according to God´s Word. It´s like God was reminding him: “Those thirty-eight extra years in the wilderness? If you had only obeyed Me!” God doesn´t want Joshua to make the same mistakes Moses did. And that´s why He gives him the key to success: “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night.” If Joshua wanted to be a good leader, a good commander, a good servant, he had to be in God´s Word every single day. God reminded him where his strength, courage, and wisdom came from: the Word of God.
In the Bible, we see God´s promises and find courage for our daily lives. It´s in the Bible that we find godly precepts to live a life that pleases the Lord and brings joy, peace, and contentment to our hearts. Why do we think that we can live well without spending time in God´s Word every day? We may commit for a few days or weeks before our schedule takes over, leaving us unable to squeeze in time to read and meditate upon God´s Truth. As we start our study on the book of Joshua today, I encourage you to commit to the whole study. You may find it difficult if you´re not used to reading the Bible every day, but the same God who told Joshua that He would make his way prosperous by being in His Word promises you the same thing. Be strong and courageous, dear friend!
Oh, Father, I want to be strong and courageous to face every situation in my life. Please help me be in Your Word every day. Help me be consistent in reading and hiding Your Word in my heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
