Devotional: Truth Over Lies W2D3

Wednesday – God Puts Shame and Guilt on You as Punishment

Read: Isaiah 54:4-5; Romans 8:1
SOAP: Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.- Romans 8:1

We could all be found guilty for a multitude of sins and without hope, but because of Jesus’ love and sacrifice on the cross, we can receive forgiveness and a new life through Him. When Satan brings up our past sins and former way of living, we must remember we are a new creation. The old is gone, the new has come…we are not the same person we use to be.

Yes, we need to repent of our sins but we also need to remember that God in His love and mercy, forgives us of our sins and chooses not to hold them against us.  Satan will try his hardest to keep us in bondage to our past mistakes and sins, but that’s when we need to focus on God’s truth over Satan’s lies. When you become a child of God, you are given freedom from your past and eternal hope for your future. The chains of bondage that once held you can now be broken through the power of Christ in you.

Father God, thank you for Your promise that You do not hold our sins against us. Thank you for the gift of forgiveness that can only be found in You. Help me to remember Your amazing gift on the days when Satan tries to remind me of my past. Empower me to forgive myself and choose to live in the freedom you have purchased for me. Help me also to extend forgiveness to others the way you have extended forgiveness to me. Amen.
