Devotional: The Greatest Gift Given W3D2

Tuesday: Hope in the Promise

Read: Hebrews 10:19–25

SOAP: Hebrews 10:23

And let us hold unwaveringly to the hope that we confess, for the one who made the promise is trustworthy.

Devotion:

Throughout the Bible, God makes and keeps promises to His children. He promised Abram that he would be the father of many nations (Genesis 17:4); God promised to protect the people of Israel and free them from 430 years of slavery (Exodus 2:24–25); and God promised salvation to all who believe in His Son (Romans 1:16–17).

God also promises that:

If we seek Him, we will find Him (Deuteronomy 4:29).

His love will never fail (1 Chronicles 16:34).

We will receive new life in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).

We will find peace when we pray (Philippians 4:6–7).

He will supply our needs (Matthew 6:33).

…and so much more!

The gift of hope that God gives us is a solid foundation for our faith, because the promises God made to the men and women in the Bible show us His incredible promise-keeping character. When we take the time to search God’s Word for proof of His character, we will find more examples than we would ever be able to share. But the most powerful example of God’s trustworthiness to your friends, family, and community is the way you live out the hope you have in Him.

God has kept His promises to you, too. Have you shared that with anyone lately? Have you told someone about the peace, love, and comforting presence of God you’ve experienced when you needed Him most?

I can’t help but think of the old hymn that says, “My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” God promised us a Redeemer, and kept that promise through the birth, death, and resurrection of His Son.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for including me in the promises You’ve made to Your children. My hope comes from You. Help me share the source of my hope with those around me as we celebrate Your Son. Amen.
