Friday: God’s Love Endures

Read: Psalm 136

SOAP: Psalm 136:26

Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his loyal love endures!

Devotion:

There is something special about receiving a “thank you” note in the mail. After you’ve put the time, effort, and resources into doing something special for someone else, a handwritten note or a text message that says “thank you” feels like a gift in return. It’s not often something we need, because we love making our loved ones feel special, but it’s a blessing of thoughtfulness.

Reading through Psalm 136 today gives us twenty-six reasons to give thanks to the Lord! Our relationship with God is more than us asking for gifts and God responding. It’s using our gifts to honor and glorify God, remembering all that He has done for us, worshipping Him for who He is and what He has done, celebrating His unchanging character, telling others about Him and the gift of salvation He has for each of us, and giving Him thanks with joyful hearts.

When was the last time you used your time with God to just say “thank you”? Thank Him for who He is—our good God, the Lord of lords, the King of kings. Thank Him for what He has done—what He has created, the gifts He has given you, the prayers He has answered. Remember the times God closed doors, made a way, offered protection, stood firm as your refuge, and comforted you. Thank God for loving you when you were still a sinner, for calling you His daughter, for making a place and a way for you to live with Him for eternity. Thank God for sending His Son to earth to be the greatest gift you could ever receive.

Give thanks to the Lord!

Prayer:

God, today I come humbly before You in thanksgiving, not to ask for anything but to remember and celebrate all that You have already done, all that You are, and all that You have given so freely to me. I love You. Amen.
