Ruth 2:14-17

14 And at mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come here and eat some bread and dip your morsel in the wine.” So she sat beside the reapers, and he passed to her roasted grain. And she ate until she was satisfied, and she had some left over.15 When she rose to glean, Boaz instructed his young men, saying, “Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her. 16 And also pull out some from the bundles for her and leave it for her to glean, and do not rebuke her.”

17 So she gleaned in the field until evening. Then she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah[a] of barley.

Psalm 34:10

The young lions suffer want and hunger;
    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

SOAP: Ruth 2:17

Ruth was a servant. Here we see her working with her hands to make sure that she and her mother in law had provision. She captures every moment of the day and stays in place until the sun sets.  Her diligence did not go unnoticed. The ephah that she collected was quite a load.  What should have been a tiny bundle of leftovers to provide a meal or two turned into several days of hearty eating for her and Naomi.

Yes, God provides abundantly for us, but we must stay in the field to reap the blessing.  Haphazard living leads to lack, but Ruth shows us how faithful obedience is rewarded. As you head out into your field today, commit to giving 100% to the work God has entrusted to you.

Lord, thank You for Your abundant provision. Help us to tend our field with passion and zeal today and bring You glory. Amen.

  1. I have to realize in my suffering that God is there and when I’m trying to do things the Worlds way I will never get the abundance Ruth got by submitting to Gods will. This study is addicting to my soul as it feeds my knowledge of God.
