Reading: John 20:11-18; Revelation 1:17-18

SOAP: John 20:17-18

Jesus replied, “Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to my Father. Go to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene came and informed the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them what Jesus had said to her.

When Mary finally recognized Jesus at the tomb, her first reaction was to cling to Him. She was overwhelmed at the reality of His resurrection, and she wanted to remain with Him. Instead, Jesus told her to go and tell the disciples that she had seen Him.

The resurrection changes us eternally. Because Christ lives, we have a secure place in eternity with God. Our eternity with Him is sure and secure. Mary did not need to hold on to Jesus when she saw Him, for she would be with Him for eternity. What she did instead was share the good news of the resurrection with the disciples.

Instead of clinging to the comfort and security of the world, we can place our faith in the security we have in eternity. Our eternity with Jesus is secure because of the resurrection. Nothing can change that. As we continue in faith we can cling to the hope we have in eternity with God, not caught up in the temporary comforts and distractions of the world.

Lord Jesus, thank You for making my future secure. Thank You for preparing a place for me in eternity with You. Help me to live with the expectation of the future reality I have in You. Help me to remember that my security does not come from the world but from my future with You. Amen.
