Devotional: Mark W5D4

Day 4

Reading: Mark 13:24–37

SOAP: Mark 13:32–33

“But as for that day or hour no one knows it—neither the angels in heaven nor the Son—except the Father. Watch out! Stay alert! For you do not know when the time will come.”

Jesus knows the future. He stood in Jerusalem and explained all that would occur at the end of the age. There will be persecution, great tribulation, even the sun will darken. Then, He will return. We can be confident that what He spoke will one day be realized.

Until that time comes, we have been told what to do: “Watch out! Stay alert!”

We know Jesus will return, but we do not know when. We are instructed to continue in faithfulness, continue living how He has instructed until He returns.

As we continue to live out the calling we have in Christ, we can seek to do two things: follow Jesus and increase our faith. As we care for our families, work hard at our jobs, study God’s Word, grow in prayer, gather with other believers, love our neighbors, and help our friends, we can be expectant of His return. Until then, may we remain faithful, proclaiming His name no matter the cost.

Lord, I long for Your return. Help me to remain alert, always watching for Your arrival. Help me remain faithful to You and those You have given me. Help me proclaim Your name no matter the cost until You return. In Your name, amen.
