Devotional: Mark W4D5

Day 5

Reading: Mark 11:15–33

SOAP: Mark 11:24–25

“For this reason I tell you, whatever you pray and ask for, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you your sins.”

A fig tree withered overnight after Jesus cursed it. When Peter mentioned it, Jesus said, “Have faith in God,” a seemingly out of place response to the situation. However, Jesus’ response was appropriate. He walked with His disciples for years, showing them His power and authority, who He was and what He could do. He showed them that if they had faith, they too could do miraculous things through prayer.

“Have faith in God” is a necessary command for all Christians. When we pray, God answers according to the measure of our faith. When we believe He will answer us, He does answer. He does not always give us what we asked for when we asked for it, but He indeed always answers.

Prayer is powerful. Our faith is powerful. God works mightily through us when we pray. We can trust there is power in our prayers whenever we ask anything in faith. We can expect God to act. Though His will is not our will and His timing is not our timing, He will always answer.

Lord, I thank You that You always allow me to approach You through prayer. Help me be persistent and pray with great faith. I believe You will answer me. I expect You to act in mighty ways for my good and for Your glory. Amen.
