Devotional: Know Love W2D5

Week 2 – Friday

Read: 1 John 4:7–11
SOAP: 1 John 4:10

In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

If you want to see the grandest gesture of love, look to the cross. God the Father gave what was most dear to Him, His son, to save His people. But the people God’s son came for did not love Him. As a matter of fact, they rejected Him, were unrighteous, imperfect, rebellious, and stubborn. Doesn’t this describe us as well?

God sent His Son for us even though we are sinners. Even now, we rebel against God, ignore His Word, go our own way, and pridefully believe we know better. He loves us anyway. His faithfulness is unshakable no matter how often we fail Him. God’s love for us eclipses any love story to ever exist among people.

Lord, thank You for loving me to the point of sending Your Son to die on my behalf. Help me to see the vastness of this love and to respond with thanksgiving and worship. Amen.
