James 2:8-13    8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so do as those who will be judged by the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

SOAP – James 2:8-9

James challenges believers with the command to love your neighbor as yourself. Believers are to love God with everything that we are and with everything that we have. Only then are we able to put the needs of our neighbor above ourselves.

What does your attitude and actions of sacrifice and giving reveal to others about Jesus? Sacrificial giving of our money, our time, our love, our talents and gifts to others shows that we trust the Lord to provide, supply, and replenish all of those things in our lives. It shows that He truly is the center of our hearts.

Father God, You are my generous Provider who pours selflessly into my life. Lord, teach me to be generous, to give without counting the cost, and to sacrifice without looking for recognition or reward. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
