Devotional: In Jesus You Are W3D5

Week 3
Day 5: In Jesus I am Known by God

Read: Psalm 139:1–3; 1 Corinthians 8:3
SOAP: Psalm 139:1

“O Lord, you examine me and know me.” Psalm 139:1

Devotion:

Take a moment to think about someone you know really well. Maybe it’s your spouse, a parent, a sibling, or a best friend. Think about all the details you know about them, what they like and dislike, what their dreams are, their hobbies, what makes them laugh, and when the last time was that they cried.

No matter how well we know someone, we can never fully know them, not the way God knows His children. In our reading today, David used specific words to describe God’s omniscience: know, understand, observe, and aware. God knew us, He knows us, and He will know us. He is not limited by time, and He is not restricted to only knowing us on a surface level.

David wrote in this psalm that God knows the big things about us, but also the small details of our days, like when we sit, stand, travel, or rest. God knows our words and the motive behind them, and there is nowhere we can possibly go where God is not with us.

Maybe you’ve had a relationship with someone and discovered the more you knew about them, the less you wanted to be around them. Maybe you’ve felt like you need to hide parts of your personality or the things you like in order to be accepted. In Jesus, we are fully known by God. He has examined us and still offers His love and protection. God will not leave you or forsake you because there is nothing about your life He doesn’t already know—and He still invites you to be part of His family.

Prayer:

Lord, You know my past, my present, and my future, and You still make a place for me in Your family. As You examine me and know me, reveal anything in my heart that is keeping me from fully embracing my identity as a child of God so I can continue to grow closer to You. Amen.
