Thursday – God is Your Help

Read: Psalm 34:4; 118:5-7; John 17:9-19

SOAP: Psalm 118:5-7

In my distress I cried out to the Lord.

The Lord answered me and put me in a wide open place.

The Lord is on my side, I am not afraid!

What can people do to me?

The Lord is on my side as my helper.

I look in triumph on those who hate me.

So often, we try to fix our own lives in front of God, thinking it is better for Him to watch us instead of help us. We want to show God what we’re capable of on our own. We have the wrong image of God. He is not a judgmental ruler looking to fail us on a project. Rather, He is our loving Father who is on our side. He wants to help us when we are in trouble.

In Jesus’ final hours, He prayed for believers. He prayed for our unity and He prayed for our protection. He asked the Father to allow us to know the truth and have joy. This prayer should give us great hope as believers.

The Lord is here to answer us when we call. We must remember to call upon the Lord in faith.  He wants us to call on Him. What keeps you from calling on the Lord for help?

Father God, thank You for loving me so much that You are willing to help me no matter what trouble I am in. I praise You that You are never too far away to hear my cry. Thank You that Jesus prayed for me even when He was facing the cross. Help me to call on You for help when I am afraid. In Jesus’ name, amen.
