Tuesday – Fear of Disaster

Read: Proverbs 1:33; 3:25-26; Luke 6:46-49

SOAP: Proverbs 1:33

But the one who listens to me will live in security, and will be at ease from the dread of harm.

It seems that every time we turn on the news, there is another story of catastrophe. A natural response to the various calamities such as flood, fire, earthquakes, and war would be fear. When we look to Scripture, the Holy Spirit shows us how He is our confidence. While He doesn’t promise us that disaster will not strike, as believers, we are able to endure when the worst occurs.

Jesus taught a parable about a man who built his house on a foundation of stone. In this parable, he dug through the sand until he hit rock. Then, when the storm came, his house remained intact. When our lives are built on the Rock that is Christ, we will have security and stability to face trials and difficulties.

Are there areas in your life where you lack confidence in your security? When we lack assurance, we must continue to remember it is the Lord who is our confidence. It is our God who will remain unshakable despite our circumstances.

Father God, thank You for giving me Christ as my sure foundation. I praise You for Your protection. Help me to continue to build my faith each day, even though I struggle to look at my circumstances instead of You. Help me be still and listen to Your voice.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
