Week One: What We Fear

Monday – Fear of the Future

Read: Jeremiah 29:11; Romans 8:28; Revelation 1:17-18

SOAP: Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know what I have planned for you,” says the Lord. “I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope.”

In moments of fear, we often feel stuck. Many times, our distress over what is to come blinds us from seeing any opportunity for God to work on our behalf.

This was the case for Judah. They had suffered defeat and were removed from their land. Their future was unknown. Through the words of Jeremiah, God promised the nation a future that was far better what they could imagine. It was one that included a restored trust in Him.

In Jeremiah 29:11, we see the character of our God. He is a God who knows our future and crafts plans to prosper us, not to harm us. He has a future planned for us that will increase our faith, draw us closer to Him, and bring glory to His name.

In what area of your life are you currently experiencing fear or anxiety over the future? When we struggle with concern over our future, it helps to remember we serve a loving God who has a plan for us. What attributes of God do you need to trust in today as you rely on Him for your future?

Father God, thank You for showing me in Your Word that You already know the plans You have for me.  Help me build my trust for You each day by relying on who You are.  Forgive me for the times I doubt Your goodness and Your faithfulness.  Thank You for loving me despite my fears. Continue to reveal to me Your purpose for my life in Your timing.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
