In the same way, he also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, every time you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For every time you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

When we become part of the new covenant our hearts are changed. We can live and worship together with people who are different from us because of our common salvation in Jesus.

A changed heart is powerful because it rises above backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. The new covenant brings together people from all nations and languages because salvation brings unity.

This is one of the reasons Jesus implemented the Lord’s supper, or communion. We are to regularly remember the sacrifice of Jesus because that is where our salvation is found. In Jesus, and because of His death, we can find unity with people from all walks of life.

Lord, there are so many reasons why we should love others. Strengthen our love for all people and give us a special kind of affection for other believers so that no matter where they are from or what their life story is, we can find unity in You.
