Reading: Acts 16
SOAP: Acts 16:31-33
They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him, along with all those who were in his house. At that hour of the night he took them and washed their wounds; then he and his family were baptized right away.”
Paul and Silas continued their travels and visited the city of Philippi. Some of the people there were open to the gospel, and they welcomed Paul and Silas, thankful they had shared the gospel with them. However, there were some in the city opposed to the message and they threw Paul and Silas in prison.
God had done miracles for them in the past, and He continued to perform miracles even in the darkest, most desperate moments. A great earthquake caused their chains to break. As a result of this, the jailer and his entire household came to believe in Jesus and were baptized.
No matter our circumstances, whether they seem hopeful or desperate, God is in control. God is faithful no matter what happens to us, no matter who opposes us, and no matter what mistakes we make. He was faithful in the past and He will be faithful in the future. He is always able to make a way, and He even provides above and beyond what we could ask or imagine. Let’s trust Him today.
Father God, I praise You for Your faithfulness. You have been faithful to me in the past. Help me to believe You will continue to be faithful to me in the future. I trust Your character and I trust Your plan. Help me continue to believe You when my circumstances change, for better or for worse. In Jesus’ name, amen.
