Devotional: Draw Near W5D5

Friday

Read – Psalm 119:9-16, Psalm 19:12-13

SOAP – Psalm 119:11

In my heart I store up your words,
so I might not sin against you.

“I have hidden Your Word in my heart” brings to mind a picture of the tulip bulbs hidden in the ground. While tulips are growing and blooming during the spring, they are storing energy to help them survive the winter. The more energy they store, the more likely they are to survive. The bigger and healthier the bulbs the more beautiful the flowers will be come next spring!

Storing up God’s Word in our hearts is like a tulip blooming in spring to help it survive in winter. When we memorize and remember God’s Word we can cling to the truth we’ve received during difficult moments. Instead of being taken captive by lies or despair, we can call to mind the truth of God’s Word when we need it most.

Lord, thank You for the beautiful truths in Your Word and for the ability to hide Your Word in our hearts. Help us to store up Your Words, so that we many not sin against You. Amen.
