Read – James 1:19-27, Psalm 19:12-13

SOAP – James 1:25

But the one who peers into the perfect law of liberty and fixes his attention there, and does not become a forgetful listener but one who lives it out—he will be blessed in what he does.

The rainbow after the flood. The pillar of stones along the Jordan. Passover after the Exodus from slavery in Egypt. God continuously gave Israel signs so that they would not forget Him. God does not want us to forget who He is, what He has done for us, or what He has said. He calls us to be doers of His Word so that our lives can be a testament of His faithfulness to an unbelieving world.

Sometimes it takes a lot of work to remember. That is why James urged his audience not to be forgetful listeners. We are inclined to ignore or forget God’s Word, even after we’ve studied it. As we look to God’s Word for instruction and encouragement, let us also remember the signs of His faithfulness and set up our own pillars of remembrance.

Lord, help us to not only read Your Word, but to do what it says. Remind us of Your Words as we go about our day.  Help us to love others around because we know that whoever does not love their brother and sister whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. Amen.
