Devotional: Draw Near W4D3

Wednesday

Read – Matthew 4:1-4, Psalm 19:10-11

SOAP – Matthew 4:4

But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Satan often attacks us when we are tired, alone, or hungry. Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness after He had fasted for forty days. Satan wants to use our hunger to tempt us. God wants our empty stomachs to drive us to Him. There is amazing power in God’s Word in fighting the lies of the enemy. Jesus in His humanity, inspired by the Holy Spirit, spoke truth to overcome the fraudulent words of Satan.

What lie are you believing today? Is there anything Satan is whispering to you to get to you to act on your own and fulfill your own needs? Find a verse that speaks truth into that area of your life and choose to believe what God says, over what Satan says!

Lord, help us to remember the schemes of Satan. Thank You that there is power and truth in Your Word to overcome the lies of the evil one. When we are tempted to fill our emptiness with other things, help us to come to You to fill us. Help us to remember that obedience to Your will is more important that self-gratification or even food. Amen.
