Read – Psalm 19:7-9, Jeremiah 15:16

SOAP – Psalm 19:7-9

The law of the Lord is perfect
and preserves one’s life.
The rules set down by the Lord are reliable
and impart wisdom to the inexperienced.
The Lord’s precepts are fair
and make one joyful.
The Lord’s commands are pure
and give insight for life.
The commands to fear the Lord are right
and endure forever.
The judgments given by the Lord are trustworthy
and absolutely just.

God’s Word is perfect, flawless, and complete. In these verses, we see six different aspects of God’s word, and six ways the life of the believer is blessed when they receive and obey it. We learn God’s truth when we live out what He says in His Word.

God, as Creator, established ways for His creation to live, ways that it would function best. Israel was well aware of God’s laws, which we can read in Leviticus and Deuteronomy. These laws related to what they ate, how they dressed, how they kept clean. While believers today are not obligated to keep the Old Testament law, the truth remains that life functions best when we obey God’s instructions.

Lord, thank You for Your Word. We stand in awe and acknowledge that it is perfect, reliable, fair, pure, right, and trustworthy. Thank You for the promise that when we live by your instructions our lives will be preserved and that we will gain wisdom and insight. Amen.
