Psalm 144:1-4 English Standard Version (ESV)

My Rock and My Fortress Of David.

144 Blessed be the Lord, my rock,
who trains my hands for war,
and my fingers for battle;
he is my steadfast love and my fortress,
my stronghold and my deliverer,
my shield and he in whom I take refuge,
who subdues peoples under me.

O Lord, what is man that you regard him,
or the son of man that you think of him?
Man is like a breath;
his days are like a passing shadow.

SOAP: Psalm 144:1

David relied on God’s wisdom, protection, and power to deliver him. He fully believed that God would guide his every decision and empower him with whatever skills he needed to fight in His name. David acknowledged that he could not carry the battle and defeat the enemy in his own strength. He clung to the sure and immovable Rock as his Defender.

Do you believe that God will empower you to fight victoriously? Are you trying to subdue the enemy on your own, rather than raising up your shield of faith?  No power on earth can defeat your Deliverer. Stop striving in your own strength and run to your Stronghold. Ask Him to train your hands for war.

Lord, thank you for being our rock and refuge. Teach us to fully rely on Your strength today. We look to You as our help and guide in the midst of the raging battle. You alone can deliver us from evil. Amen.
