Tuesday – Brave to be generous
READ: 2 Corinthians 9:6-8; Proverbs 19:17
SOAP: 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
“Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.” – 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
As women of God, we are called to live generously. Like the farmer with only a few seeds, we don’t have to have much in order to be generous. All it takes is a heart willing to share a kind word, a few minutes of time, our talents, and our treasures, no matter how great or small. Regardless of what we have, we’re called to give. Our generous Heavenly Father makes sure we always have more than enough. “Open-handed giving, a lavish expression of love and gratitude, can demonstrate our confidence in God’s provision for all His people.” – Xochitl Dixon
Brave generosity gives cheerfully, without reluctance, confident of God’s provision. Generosity in the Kingdom of God is a win-win every time.
Lord, thank You for setting the example of ultimate generosity when You gave Your son Jesus. Thank You, God, for providing for us so we can give to others as You so faithfully give to us. Give me a cheerful, willing heart. Teach me to live openhanded and generously, bravely trusting You. Amen.
Apparently, God wants me to really absorb the fact that I am called to be a cheerful giver. This was the subject of my pastor’s sermon on Sunday and we talked about it in our small group last night. I think my husband and I are good at being generous but I needed a reminder to check my heart attitude.
