1 Timothy 6:3-10 SOAP: 6:6-7, 10

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

SOAP

When we love money more than God, we hurt ourselves and others. The love of money never diminishes; it only increases, making satisfaction unattainable. We exhaust ourselves, working harder and harder to obtain more and more, only to find that satisfaction never comes. It alludes us at every turn. It is in contentment where we find satisfaction for our souls and gratitude in our hearts for what we already have.

Dear Jesus,

Help me to love You more than the things in my life. Protect me from ever placing money over my love for You, my family, or my friends. Remind me again and again when I am tempted that the things of this world will not last – only my investment in my relationship with You and with the people around me. Help me to love You and love others more than anything else this world offers. Amen.
