Life can feel hard. If we are honest, we’ve probably all looked at our lives and wondered, Is this really what God has planned for me? Am I really in His will? If so, why is my life so difficult? I thought once I became a Christian my life would be struggle-free. Why do my prayers seem to go unanswered? Why do I seem to walk through one trial and right into another one? Why is my life marked with brokenness and pain? Why can’t my life be easy?
We have all asked some form of these questions from time to time. We’ve all been sidelined by betrayal, heartbreak, and brokenness. We are reminded daily that this world is not our home, and yet our hearts ache for what we don’t have. We were made for so much more, and we long to experience heaven on earth. So, when life is hard, when the answers to our prayers are a long time coming, and when pain invades our lives we struggle with what we thought our life would be like versus our reality.
We can find women with similar stories throughout the Bible. They each went through her own pain, doubt, and worry. Though their stories are unique, their beautifully surrendered lives were marked with a mixture of hope and heartbreak. Not one of them had an easy life. Each one had to walk through pain, trust God in the unknown, and live by faith and not by sight. Each one had to choose to believe in God’s goodness in the midst of her unanswered prayers, and each woman had to live in the tension of God’s sovereignty and life’s brokenness.
And that was God’s will for their lives.
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” –Romans 12:12
Their stories were different, but no matter what they went through, they never went through it alone. God was with them in every valley and on every mountain top. He heard every prayer and felt their pain.
Were these women perfect? No. But each woman had one thing in common: a relationship with God.
And, if you have placed your faith in Christ, you do, too.
Our lives may not be marked with ease, but make no mistake, they are marked. Marked with God’s love. Marked with God’s provision. Marked with God’s anointing.
So, stand strong, my sweet sister, in your faith. Do not tremble even though the world shakes. God is with you. God is for you, and God has a greater purpose in the pain as you choose to beautifully surrender your life to His will. Like the women in the Bible who have gone before us, God is with us and, in Him, we find our strength – no matter what comes our way.
“I have set the Lᴏʀᴅ always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.” –Psalm 16:8 (ESV)
