So when Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, look, here is your son!” He then said to his disciple, “Look, here is your mother!” From that very time the disciple took her into his own home. – John 19:26–27
I read this verse and I prayed, “Jesus, how could you still be thinking about the welfare of your mother while you were on the cross in agony, betrayed and hated by the people you came to save? How?” In response, the Holy Spirit reminded me of Isaiah 49:15:
Can a woman forget her baby who nurses at her breast?
Can she withhold compassion from the child she has borne?
Even if mothers were to forget,
I could never forget you!
We would never be able to fully understand or comprehend the depth, height, width, and breadth of God’s love for us. And, frankly, I don’t think it is there for us to understand, but to enjoy and live in its fullness.
We are never without help. We are never forgotten. God’s heart for us is filled with everlasting and enduring love that nothing—and no one—can change or take away from us. Our shortcomings, failures, mistakes, strengths, and abilities, nothing that we are or will ever do can stop God’s love for us.
It’s a love that makes me ask, “Why do You love me so? What have I ever done or said to deserve to be loved unconditionally like this?”
And the answer is, nothing! We can never do or say anything to deserve love so pure and genuine, like that of Christ’s. He just loves us. Simple! He just loves us.
God is mindful of us. He is not oblivious to what is going on in our lives. He is not indifferent to us. He loves us with an everlasting love that transcends time, location, race, and distance. You are not hidden from His heart. Your name is engraved in the palm of His hand. Beloved, you are not forgotten. Do not allow your present trials to blind you from the love that is constantly there for you. God is working behind the scenes on your behalf.
As long as you have given your life over to Him, you are part of His family. His watchful eyes are on you, and His love is surrounding you. Do not allow the devil to tell you otherwise. Do not allow the unpleasantness around you to tell you otherwise. Do not allow your inadequacies to tell you otherwise. You are loved, cared for, and always remembered by God.
Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If He was there for Mary, His earthly mother, He is also here for you, His beloved daughter.
Do not lose faith! He is always there. He is always there to help you. Even when there is no one else around, He is your ever-present help at all times. Even when you can’t see anything working the way you want it to, even when your natural senses cannot feel Him. He is there. Pick up your Bible and read it, talk to Him in prayer, and His presence and joy will fill your heart with the assurance that you are loved, remembered, cherished, and never forgotten.
Dear friend, I need you to believe these words. You are never without His help.
