The word of God continued to spread, the number of disciples in Jerusalem increased greatly, and a large group of priests became obedient to the faith. –Acts 6:7

I love the Word of God and how nothing can stop it from spreading, for it is the power of God unto salvation. Everywhere there are still people who need this Word to be saved, and the Word spreads through faithful disciples of God who are willing to take His Word where it has not been heard or experienced. From the country, to urban areas, in cities, schools – any and everywhere!

The word disciple comes from the Greek word, ‘mathetes, which means a ‘follower’ or a ‘learner.’ We are disciples of Christ; we learn from Christ and follow Him. God has empowered every true disciple with the Word of God and the Holy Spirit to help us spread His love and gospel to those around us who do not yet know Him.

I’ve always wondered why, among all the prayers Christ could have prayed for His disciples before leaving the earth, was it that they might be one as He and the Father are one. He did not pray for riches or protection, but He earnestly asked the Father to unite them. Why? Because as His followers we need to be united to be able to spread His love to those around us. One person cannot do it alone or be everywhere at all times. We are all members of one body of Christ with different and unique functions. We need to be united in spirit and motives to spread the gospel.

In unity and with the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, we have been empowered to spread Jesus everywhere we go.

The question now is, am I in unity with other believers, or do I live in dissension with them? Am I an avid lover and reader of God’s Word? Do I seek to daily learn at His feet? Only then can people around us become obedient to Jesus. In today’s scriptures it was the priests who were idol worshipers; in our situation it can be a father, mother, son, daughter, or colleague who does not yet know Jesus.

Father thank You so much for Your Holy Spirit and Your Word that help us to be Your true disciples. Thank You for the reminder today in Your Word that we have been empowered. I pray for all Your children around the world to realize this great gift and power You have given us to spread Your Word everywhere we go so we can truly be Your disciples. In Jesus’ name, amen.
