Praying the Psalms

For about 10 years, this has been my favorite way to pray. Each morning, after my Bible reading, I choose a Psalm and pray it as a form of adoration to the Lord. Now, not all Psalms lend themselves to praise, but some do really well, and today’s Psalm is one of them.

So let’s be doers of the Word and not merely hearers and pray this Psalm together. I’ll show you how. Let’s get started!

Psalm 145: 1-13

I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.

Oh God, my God and my King, I bless your name forever and ever. Every single day, including this day, I will bless you and praise your name forever. You are great, O Lord, and you are greatly to be praised. Your greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your glorious works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness.

Lord, many in this generation are walking away from you, but Lord, let me stand firm and pass the baton of speaking your works to the next generation. Let me declare your mighty acts to everyone I meet, so there is no doubt that I am yours. Lord, the splendor of your majesty is too amazing for me to even comprehend. Your glorious works are beautiful and spectacular. {Sit for a moment and ponder or look at nature to meditate on His works.} All your works praise your name, and I declare your greatness, Lord!

They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness. The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. The Lord is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.

O Lord, I will pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and sing aloud of your righteousness! You are gracious and merciful. Thank you. You are slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. O, thank you. You are so good to me, and to everyone, and your mercy is over all you have made. Thank you.

All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your saints shall bless you! They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. [The Lord is faithful in all his words and kind in all his works.]

As I look around at all your mighty works, I give thanks, and I join all the saints in blessing your name! I will speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power. I will tell my precious children all about you and what you have done for me, and I will tell them of the glorious splendor of your kingdom and how your dominion continues through all generations. O Lord, you are faithful in all your words and you are kind in all your works. Thank you. Thank you Lord.

Oh friends, we have just joined together in the throne room of God!

My week three challenge: Find another Psalm that you want to pray in this same way and try it out for yourself!

I’m praying for you, friend!
