Pray & Don’t Give Up
I think my girls have taken a page out of “how to get what you want” from the woman described in the parable of this Scripture passage.
Talk about persistence.
This widow just doesn’t give up! She seeks justice again and again from this godless judge until he finally is so tired of seeing her, he is willing to give in and give her the justice she is seeking just so he doesn’t have to deal with her ONE.MORE.TIME.
I think if we’d be honest, we’ve all been there, haven’t we?
We all have a prayer or two that has gone unanswered over the years. We keep praying for “__________” to change, or “so and so” to change and year after year we don’t see any difference. Eventually we assume based on the outcome that God has chosen selective hearing…kinda like our kids on certain days when we ask them to empty the dishwasher or put their clean clothes away… , He too has chosen for some reason not to answer this prayer.
So what must we do? What should be our response in these situations?
Continue to pray and DO NOT LOSE HEART!
Seek truth instead of your feelings or the opinions of others. Continue to abide in God. Turn to Him EVERY SINGLE TIME this prayer request comes to your mind.
Intentionally fill your heart and mind with truth to combat the lies that are being spoken to you.
God answers prayer requests in his own way in his own time. Psalm 40:1-3
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18
So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer. Ezra 8:23
Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me! Psalm 66:20
This parable is designed to teach us the importance of the fervency in prayer.
Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. Luke 18:1
NEVER STOP PRAYING!
You, friend, are not alone in your tendency to get discouraged because this one certain prayer just does not seem to get answered.
This discouragement may even lead you to question whether praying really makes a difference at all.
It’s during times like this we need to go back to WHO God is and HOW much He loves us.
In this story, the widow is weak, helpless and the only person she can turn to for help is a godless judge who is bothered every time she appears before him to plead her case.
This judge doesn’t care for her. This judge doesn’t know her…..let alone love her….love her so much he is willing to die for her.
No, we are told in this parable the judge has no fear of God nor man.
What a contrast to our source of help, God.
God, who loves us and is for us, sets His favor upon us and His might within us. Our God always has our best in mind.
His delays in answering our prayers may be hard and for sure discouraging…but cling to the truth that you know.
God loves you.
As you wait for an answer, continue to pray. Continue to be persistent and grow in your faith and knowledge of Him.
God always has your best at heart…if there is a delay…then there is a reason for it.
Grow in Him, abide in Him and continue to seek His face!
An answer will come.
“The end of all things is at hand; therefore, keep sane and sober for your prayers.” The pressures of worldliness will become greater as the end draws near, therefore, all the more must we watch and be sober unto prayer, and not lose heart. 1 Peter 4:7
Let’s Talk: How have you been persistent in prayer and what did you learn through it?
