Dear friends, if God so loved us, then we ought to love one another (1 John 4:11).
In his three short letters, John, the beloved disciple, encouraged his readers to love one another thirteen different times.
We love because He loved us first (1 John 4:19).
We are only able to love one another because of the love we have received from God, who gave His Son as a sacrifice for us.
Now this is love: that we walk according to His commandments (2 John 1:6).
In these letters, John explained the deep connection between love and obedience. His encouragement to the early church also encourages us to remain faithful to God’s commandments. Through our obedience, we can love others and show God’s love to the world.
Know Love: A Study of 1, 2, 3 John will explore the letters of 1, 2, and 3 John and the way he instructs and encourages believers in Christ to remain in God’s love. John’s encouragement for all believers to know God’s love and to love one another is as relevant today as it was in the first century. This study explores how the love of Christ not only changes us but changes the world through our obedience to His commandments.
