They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah: he will remember their iniquity; he will punish their sins. – Hosea 9:9
Have you ever seen those selfies taken seconds before a disaster? Like when there´s someone on a boat taking a selfie and, behind that person, you see a shark coming out of the sea. You see in the picture what´s about to happen, but the person with the phone has no idea of what´s going on. This was exactly what was happening to Israel. They were heading towards disaster but were totally unaware of it.
People in Israel accused Hosea of being a fatalist when he announced the coming judgment and called for repentance. They may have thought, “Who in his right mind would prophesy a judgment like this when we are in the midst of such a bountiful harvest, in itself a proof of God’s blessing?” They were living in times of prosperity, and everyone was happy. Things were going really well… or maybe not so well?
We may have a false sense of security when things are going well. We don´t have big problems, life is good, and we forget about God. Have you ever noticed that it can be easier for us to turn to God during difficult seasons of our lives than to seek Him when things are running smoothly? Let´s seek His face in every circumstance!
Dear Father, may my soul search for You not only during the bad seasons of my life but also during the happy times. Help me cling to You every day of my life. Amen.
